Preparing a logo for cutting into vinyl

Have a logo and want to know whether it can become vinyl record wall art? Prepare a clear reference and explain which elements must be kept. A design that is legible on screen cannot always be reproduced exactly as a cut-out pattern.

Choose the right version of the logo

Start by finding the version you actually use: the full name, the symbol alone or a layout with a tagline. If several versions exist, identify your preferred one and provide the others as clearly named references.

Keep the original file if you have it. A screenshot can convey the idea but may not replace a usable source file. Agree the file format with MaggaM; no format alone guarantees that the project can be made.

Identify the essential elements

Letter shapes and small details may need adapting for a cut-out design. Isolated areas within a drawing need particular attention to determine how they will fit into the finished piece.

  • The name: copy the exact text, including accents and punctuation.
  • The symbol: explain what makes it recognisable to you.
  • The tagline: say whether the small words below the name are essential or open to discussion.
  • The colours: explain whether they carry the meaning of the logo; a silhouette creates a different effect from a coloured image.

Do not remove important details yourself to make the logo fit the record. Include the complete reference and state your priorities so that any adaptations can be discussed.

Describe the result you want

Explain where the piece will be displayed and the distance from which it will usually be seen. A name intended to be read from the doorway has different requirements from a small detail viewed up close.

The Rémy’s Cooking creation provides a real example of a logo turned into wall art. It illustrates a completed project without defining what will be possible for every new design.

A brief you can fill in

“Here is my logo in version [file name]. The elements I need to keep are [elements]. The exact text is [text]. The piece will be displayed [location and use]. I am open to discussing [adaptations]. I would like [quantity] piece(s), ideally by [date].”

Check before starting the project

Proofread the name and accents, remove outdated versions and identify who will approve the design if several people are involved. Only submit elements you are authorised to have used.

Feasibility, adaptations, price and lead time must be confirmed for your enquiry. To prepare the full project, visit the custom creation page.
