Handle a cut record with care: its fine sections are part of the design and should never be used as handles. For routine care, dust gently and keep handling to a minimum.
The key recommendation: MaggaM product pages, such as the SCH vinyl record, recommend gentle cleaning with a microfibre cloth. This guide is for cut-out decorative objects, not for cleaning records intended for playback.
Dust without catching on the details
- Prepare a clean, soft cloth. Use a microfibre cloth free of particles to avoid dragging dirt across the surface. Start with a dry cloth.
- Support the decoration securely. Choose a clear space and support the solid areas of the record. Do not hold it by a cut-out name, letter or narrow detail.
- Wipe lightly. Work on accessible areas without pressure, and do not force the cloth through openings.
- Stop if a mark remains. Rubbing harder will not tell you whether it is dirt or an existing mark on the record.
If dusting does not remove a stain, ask MaggaM for advice before using a cleaning product. Do not use solvents or abrasives, or soak the decoration, without instructions suited to your design.
Handle cut-out areas with care
Before moving the piece, identify the solid areas that can support it. Keep your hands clean and dry, and avoid pulling on the edges of the design. A decoration with fine details needs more care than an uncut record.
Moving and protecting your vinyl wall art
For a house move or hand delivery, prepare the packaging before taking down the decoration. Support the solid areas and do not pull on the cut-out details.
- Reuse the original packaging if it is clean, intact and suitable for the piece. Otherwise, choose a box and rigid protection larger than the design, with soft padding that will not catch on the cut-outs.
- Secure it without compression. Prevent movement inside the box without pressing on thin sections. Do not stick tape directly onto the vinyl; protect each piece separately.
- Keep the package stable during transport. Do not place heavy items on top, and avoid heat or prolonged sunlight. On arrival, open it on a clear table, keeping sharp tools away from the decoration.
Is a fixing stuck, or does a design seem difficult to protect? Ask MaggaM for advice before forcing it or improvising.
Choose a location away from heat
Avoid placing it directly beside a radiator, in strong sunlight or in damp areas. A room with a stable temperature and few fluctuations is better for preserving the material.
Follow the mounting instructions for your design and chosen wall. Do not assume that every part of the design can support a fixing. If you are unsure about an attachment point or surface, ask before installing.
A small scratch is not necessarily a stain
MaggaM reuses pre-owned records, so slight marks may already be present before you first handle your decoration. Cleaning will not necessarily remove them: do not try to erase them by vigorous rubbing or polishing.
Noticed an unusual mark or a weakened area? Describe the affected area and name the design when you contact us. This helps you get specific advice instead of trying several cleaning products.
Unsure about your design?
For a persistent mark, a fixing question or a delicate move, contact MaggaM with the design name and your question. Precautions may depend on the design and the fineness of its cut-outs.
